Middletown's regional Scholastic Art Award winners
Middletown High School junior Daniella Correia and Twin Towers Middle School eighth-grader Lawrence Hendrickson led the Middletown contingency that won the top awards in the regional Scholastic Art Awards competition.
Daniella and Lawrence were Gold Key winners, the highest level an artist can receive, and now will have their work considered for national recognition. Daniella won in the photography category. Lawrence won in drawing and illustration. Daniella also won two Silver Keys for other pieces submitted (photography) and Hendrickson had one (drawing and illustration).
Middletown had 128 completed submissions - winning the two Gold Keys and eight Silver Keys. Eleven students received honorable mention.
Monhagen Middle School's Edward Moscatiello earned two Silver Keys (photography). Brianna Cleary (Monhagen, drawing and illustration), Zori Davenport (MHS, photography) and Zuleima McGuire (MHS, digital art) each received one.
Congratulations to the following MHS students, who received honorable mention: Alexis Amabile, Kelly Holmes, Kayla Hunter, Nayeli Marin, Magdalena Matias, Sanovia Pratt (twice), Jestina Ranglin, Olivia Reed, Brook Rivera, Hanna Storms and Isaiah Vera.
This year, due to the pandemic, there will not be a live exhibition or award ceremony. In February, there will be a recorded regional "ceremony" of all the winning Gold Key and Silver Key artwork. We will post that video when it becomes available. We also are working on a PowerPoint presentation that will show all 128 submitted pieces.
