Meet the Board of Education candidates

When: Tuesday, May 21, 2019, 7 a.m.-9 p.m.
The voting process: Voting only takes about five minutes. You will vote yes or no for the proposed budget, as well as a capital projects propostion. You also will elect three candidates to the nine-member Board of Education. Each seat carries a three-year term, which begins in July. The candidates are, in order of how they will appear on the ballot, are Vincent Crescenzo, Rose Tobiassen, John Williams and Linda Jansen.

Meet the Board of Education candidates

 

vince crescenzo

Vincent Crescenzo
Educational background: Master's Degree, Special Education
Occupation: Special education teacher for 36 years. Retired nine years
Length of time in the Middletown community: 21 years
Top three issues of your candidacy:
1. Continue the academic progress being achieved; increased graduation rates, continue to provide outstanding academic programs leading to outstanding student performance.
2. Continue strategic, long-term planning for our aging infrastructure
3. Continue to be fiscally proactive regarding the annual budet and its impact on our taxpayers.

 

Rose Tobiassen  

Rose Tobiassen
Educational background: Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, Master's Degree in Education, MLS Library Science; SDA Certificate School District Administrator.
Occupation: Retired Monroe-Woodbury Central School District career educator
Length of time in the Middletown community: 29 years
Top three issues of your candidacy:
1. Supports initiatives to insure that all students will succeed and supports rigorous accountability for students achievement.
2. Must be flexible and responsive to the needs of the community.
3. Dedicated to insure a fiscal sound budget that meets the district's and community needs.

 

John Williams

John Williams
Occupation: Pastor, Faith Alive Ministries
Length of time in the Middletown community: 50 years
Top three issues of your candidacy:
1. Community engagement
2. Continued success of our students and district as a whole.
3. Maintaining our fiscal responsibility.

 

Linda Jansen  

Linda Jansen
Educational background: Bachelor's of Science Degree in Community and Human Services.
Occupation: Community Health Outreach Worker with the Orange County Department of Health.
Length of time in the Middletown community: 64 years
Top three issues of your candidacy:
1. To continue to cultivate a relationship between the City of Middletown, Town of Wallkill and the Enlarged City School District of Middletown, where the best interest of the students is put first.
2. To advocate for workers rights and safety concerns.
3. To review spending, identify needs and develop a solid budget plan.
