Middletown High School senior Kevin Gomez Jr. was recognized at the May 4 Board of Education meeting for his participation at the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute (PR/HYLI). The Institute strives for student empowerment through developing leadership skills, interacting with positive role models, and learning about the state legislative process. Approximately 200 students from seven delegations statewide take part in activities including team-building exercises, a Mock Assembly session, and career development workshops.
"...it was very gratifying to be able to experience the Mock Assembly in-person, and I was able to gain valuable insights into how our state government performs in real time by actually being in the place where our Assemblymen perform their legislative duties," Kevin said.
