Federal Programs
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is a federal law designed to ensure all students have access to a high-quality education, regardless of their background. It provides states with guidelines on how to use federal funds to support public schools, with a strong focus on equity, accountability, and school improvement. ESSA promotes transparency by giving families and communities access to information about school performance and progress. Additionally, it provides extra support to students and schools that are struggling, ensuring that all scholars receive the help they need to succeed academically.

Under the Every Student Succeeds Act, parents/guardians have the right to know the professional qualifications of their child’s classroom teachers, including:
-
Whether a teacher has state certification for the grade levels and subjects they are teaching and the teacher’s baccalaureate degree major and any other certifications or degrees
-
Whether their child receives services from paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications
Parents/guardians may request their child’s classroom teacher’s professional qualifications by contacting Camille Adoma, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction.
