Stainless Steel Travel Cups not allowed in secondary schools

The Middletown school district will not allow scholars in Grade 6-12 to bring stainless steel travel cups into their buildings when the 2025-26 school year begins on Wednesday, September 3.

This is a proactive decision, as we don’t want to wait until someone gets hurt. This decision is about protecting scholars and keeping our schools safe, welcoming and focused on learning.

Plastic water bottles and clear lightweight school-safe cups that can be refilled are still allowed for our scholars.

Thank you for your partnership in helping us maintain a safe school environment.

🚫 No Stainless Steel Travel Cups at School

Why this change?

Arrival Efficiency – Oversized cups slow down the bag check process, causing delays for everyone.
Safety – These large, heavy cups can cause injury if misused. (Think: we wouldn’t allow students to walk around school with a metal bat!)
Scholar Well-Being – Unfortunately, national trends and social media “challenges” have shown these cups being misused in unsafe ways. In some cases, our young people have attempted to use them to transport items they shouldn’t or have used them to cause injury to another person.

Our Commitment

We are being proactive—we don’t want to wait until someone gets hurt. This decision is about protecting scholars and keeping our schools safe, welcoming, and focused on learning.
