Budget vote and School Board election TODAY
Today, Middletown school district voters will be asked to consider the 2025-26 school budget, an election to fill three vacant Board of Education seats, as well as vote on two Propositions.
The polls will be open from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. at three locations - Presidential Park Elementary School, the Maple Hill Annex at Truman Moon and the Board of Education office. If you are unsure where you vote, please contact District Clerk Crystal Monchery at (845) 326-1196.
The proposed 2025-26 budget is $276,417,004, and would result in a tax levy increase of 1.99%
The open three BOE seats are due to the expiring terms of Mitchell Williams, Rose Tobiassen and John Williams. Each unpaid term is for three years, beginning July 1, 2025. Here are the candidates, in the order they appear on the ballot.
PROPOSITION #1
2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR BUDGET
This budget is under the New York State-mandated tax cap.
We understand and respect our obligation to your tax dollars, while presenting a budget that serves the needs of our scholars, educators and staff - and keeps Middletown’s first-rate, supportive programming in place. This budget is under the New York State-mandated tax cap.
PROPOSITION #2
CREATION OF CAPITAL RESERVE FUND
These funds will lower the taxpayers’ costs on Capital Projects.
This will come from any surplus funds remaining in the District’s unassigned fund balance each year, up to a total $20 million. Middletown school district voters have previously passed two such propositions.
PROPOSITION #3
AUTHORIZING RECONSTRUCTION AND CONSTRUCTION IMPROVEMENTS
These will result in no tax levy increase or additional costs to taxpayers.
This project will be funded by a combination of bonds, capital reserve monies and unappropriated fund balance.
