Scholars Honor Holocaust Rememberance Day

In order to earn the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness, our scholars design civic-based projects, backed by research, to influence positive change to their communities, under the guidance of Capstone instructors Mrs. Luba and Mrs. Londrigan. On May 6th, MHS seniors Alexis Wall, Raymond Zayas, and Gianna Boria held a ceremony to honor the Holocaust Remembrance Day, Yom HaShoah. The scholars invited Judy Ronay, the director of the Zachor Antisemitism Initiative from the Jewish Federation of Greater Orange County, to tell the story of her parents' life as Holocaust survivors. MHS Chamber Orchestra, led by Mrs. Gugiliotta, played the Theme from Schindler's List and senior Ariana Smith read selected poems from I Never Saw Another Butterfly. The assembly was given to scholars during their second-period social studies classes.
