NJROTC leads moving Sept. 11 tribute at MHS
What started as one scholar’s idea turned into an inspirational September 11 recognition ceremony that likely will remain a tradition at Middletown High School.

Cadet Ensign Dayana Sanchez, an MHS junior and the NJROTC Special Projects Officer, was the impetus behind this morning’s flag raising ceremony. She thought since her Corps was so much about tradition, respect and honor, it would be fitting to honor those lost on the fateful morning our Nation changed forever.

So Dayana developed the plan for today's event with the Cadet leadership. She was the lead for raising the flag, assisted by the Cadet Commanding Officer, Cadet Lieutenant Commander Inderpreet Kaur, and Cadet Executive Officer, Cadet Lieutenant Juan Gonzalez.

Chief Kyle Slingerland made remarks about the historical significance of this event, and led those in attendance in a moment of silence. Taps was played by Mr. Guy Johanson.

Cadet Senior Enlisted Advisor Cadet Senior Chief Jarius Fontanez led the Corps of Cadets at today's ceremony. There were about 80 NJROTC Cadets in attendance at today's ceremony, ranging in grade level from Freshman to Senior. This is the first memorial ceremony for September 11 that the NJROTC has hosted, and the live feed was available to be viewed in all classrooms.
