New MHS Schedule Information

"Principal's Message" with a mail and notification icon.

Dear Middletown High School Community,

I hope this message finds you well as we enter the final month of summer. I am excited to share some important updates about our school’s new schedule, which will be implemented this upcoming academic year. This September, we will adopt a new schedule designed to enhance the learning experience and streamline the school day. Our enhanced schedule features a mix of single periods and double periods for various subjects. This means that, in certain instances, scholars will attend 1 class for two periods on X days, and a different class for the same 2 periods on Y days.

In the sample below (Previous schedule), the first scholar is scheduled for single period classes that they attend on X and Y days.  In the 2nd example (New Schedule), the scholar is scheduled for a double period of ELA 11 Honors Periods 1 and 2 on X days, and College American History during periods 1 and 2 on Y days. Additionally, the scholar is scheduled for Algebra II Honors Periods 3 and 4 on X days, and College Learning Strategies on Y days. Period 5 in this instance remains a single Period of Spanish III on both X and Y days.

Previous Schedule

Period 1 ELA 11 Honors Period 1 ELA 11 Honors
Period 2 Coll American History Period 2 Coll American History
Period 3 Algebra II Honors Period 3 Algebra II Honors
Period 4 College Learning Strategies Period 4 College Learning Strategies
Period 5 Spanish III Period 5 Spanish III

New 24/25 Schedule

Period 3 Algebra II Honors Period 3 College Learning Strategies
Period 4 Period 4
Period 5 Spanish III Period 5 Spanish III

Benefits of the Enhanced Schedule

This new structure is designed to provide numerous benefits to our scholars, including:

  • In-Depth Engagement: Double periods will allow for hands-on, active engagement, enabling scholars to explore topics more thoroughly and participate in extended learning activities.
  • Reduced Stress: With fewer transitions between classes and a reduced number of courses on any given day, we aim to create a more manageable and less stressful learning environment for our scholars.
  • Personalized Learning: The new schedule supports personalized learning, offering increased opportunities for both intervention and enrichment, tailored to meet the unique needs of each scholar.

Looking Ahead

We are confident that this new schedule will provide significant benefits to our scholars and staff. Our goal is to create an environment where every scholar can thrive academically and personally. We are committed to supporting our scholars through this transition and will be providing additional resources and guidance as needed. We also understand you may have questions and would like more information. To that end, we have put together a series of Town Halls to answer questions and provide further information, as well as included information in our 9th Grade Orientation (Middie Move-up day) and New Scholar Orientation.
