Family members visited Monhagen Middle School on Thursday, December 11, to see their scholars become certified Peer Mediators! Scholars of all grades were accepted to the Peer Mediation program based on recommendations from school faculty and administrators, due to their apparent aptitude for helping others solve problems. After a short interview process, twenty-one future Peer Mediators received fifteen hours of training over the course of three days with the Dispute Resolution Center (DRC) and Monhagen's Peer Mediation Coordinators, Brittney Garner and Silvia Petkova.

The certificate ceremony included a presentation by the scholars about why they wanted to be a part of the Peer Mediation program, what they learned, and a demonstration of a peer mediation session. They were all given a certificate from Monhagen Middle School as well as a certification from the DRC.

"We are so proud of the work these twenty-one students put in and cannot wait to see them shine in this leadership role," said Garner.

By the end of January, these scholars will be assisting the coordinators in low-level peer mediations. We hope that they will utilize their new skills to help keep the peace between their classmates and make their school an even better place to learn! Congratulations to our new Peer Mediators!
