Red Ribbon Week has been celebrated throughout Middletown schools!

It began with Middletown High School scholars going to the annual Kickoff Celebration, hosted by Goshen High School this year. Every school district in Orange County was asked to allow 8th and 9th graders to attend. Middletown was represented by thirteen scholars from Twin Towers, Monhagen and Middletown High School. They participated in breakout sessions to discuss the dangers of gambling and met with Canine Sheriff "Nova". Guest Speaker, Frank Wright, was happy to meet with our Middies and answer their questions about his powerful journey to recovery from addiction.

In our elementary schools, 5th graders had assemblies with Wanda Febus from ADAC (Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Council). They learned all about what it means to live with a Natural High, which can be any healthy activity that makes us happy. Common examples that scholars came up with included playing sports and hanging out with their friends. They also reviewed the dangers of peer pressure and how to remove themselves from stressful situations. The assemblies concluded with the scholars signing and reciting the Red Ribbon Week Pledge to grow up safe, healthy, and drug-free!

National Red Ribbon Week is an annual anti-drug and violence prevention awareness campaign in the United States, observed in October, that aims to promote a drug-free lifestyle and prevent violence. It originated as a tribute to Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena.

The campaign has grown into the nation's largest and longest-running drug awareness and prevention program and is celebrated yearly from October 23 to October 31.
