MHS Principal Donohue's message about cell phones

Dear Middletown High School Community,

I hope this message finds you well. As we continue to prioritize a focused and productive learning
environment for all of our scholars. We are at the half-year mark of the 2024-2025 school year
and are resetting expectations. Beginning Monday, February 10th, we'll be putting more focus
on ensuring scholars follow this policy because we believe it's in the best interest of our entire
learning community. We ask that families continue to support this policy by discussing its
importance with their children and reinforcing that it is in place to support their academic
success and overall well-being.

We believe that maintaining a classroom atmosphere free from distractions is essential for our
students’ success, and we ask for your continued support in upholding our cell phone guidelines.
To that end, we want to remind everyone of the following expectations:

● All cell phones must be placed in Yondr Pouches at the start of the school day, which are
provided to each student. The phones will remain secured in these pouches until the end
of the school day, ensuring they are not accessible during the school day.
● Scholars may use their phones only in designated safe spaces, such as cohort offices,
Student Support Center (SSC), or other approved areas where they can use their phones
appropriately and responsibly for specific reason.

This policy is designed to create an environment where scholars are fully engaged in their learning
without the distractions that personal devices can bring. We appreciate your understanding and
cooperation in reminding your young people of these expectations.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the cell phone policy or how it is being
implemented, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are committed to working together to
ensure a positive and productive school year for all of our scholars.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
Sincerely,

William Donohue
Executive Principal
