Interested in Running for the Board of Education?

Are you interested in running for the Board of Education? You can pick up petitions at the Board of Education office, 223 Wisner Ave., from District Clerk Crystal Monchery. Petitions are available to be picked up Monday through Friday, 9 a.m-4 p.m.

The election is Tuesday, May 20. There will be three seats at stake, each carrying a three-year unpaid term. The term begins July 1, 2025 and runs through June 30, 2028.

Petitions nominating candidates for the office of the Board of Education member must be filed with the District Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

Eligibility

Prospective school board member candidates:

  • Must be able to read and write 
  • Must be a qualified voter of the district; that is, a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age or older, and not adjudged to be an incompetent 
  • Must be and have been a resident (but need not be a taxpayer) of the district for a continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one year 
  • May not have been removed from any school district office within the preceding year
  • May not reside with another member of the same school board as a member of the same family
  • May not be a current employee of the school board
  • May not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office

Workshop for Prospective School Board Members

The Orange County School Boards Association invites anyone interested in serving on their local school board of education to attend this workshop and learn about the roles, responsibilities, and realities of school board service. Virtual and in-person workshops are available. The agenda includes the legal and practical qualifications for serving on a school board, roles and responsibilities of a school board member, and the time commitment & types of decisions made by school boards. This free workshop is offered by OCSBA as a community service. Reservations are required. Please RSVP by dates noted below.
