Elementary Schools Welcome Baby Chicks
Our elementary school scholars are learning about animals with the help of some special guests! The Cornell Cooperative Extension provided our schools with fertilized chicken eggs and our scholars have been eagerly waiting for them to hatch. In the meantime, they are receiving lessons on life cycles and how chicks grow in eggs.
Maple Hill and Maple Hill Annex were the first to receive their batches of eggs, with Maple Hill incubating duck eggs as well. After approximately 21 days, Maple Hill Annex was the first to see them hatch. You can watch a video of the chicks hatching below. Presidential Park and William A. Carter will be receiving their batches on May 28. After the chicks have completed their elementary school visits, some will be taken home by teachers, and the rest of the chicks will return to the CCE and be given to a local chicken farmer.
