First Days of School Schedule
The first days of school will be on a staggered start schedule to gradually introduce scholars to the school, educators, support staff, and peers.
BOCES scholars will get a Z-Day pass on Thursday, September 3rd. BOCES will run on a regular schedule on Friday, September 4th.
Opening Days Schedule
Thursday, September 3rd
- In-Person Learning: Only incoming 9th-grade scholars (Cohort 2026) report to the building. This dedicated day allows us to focus our full attention on our newest cohort as they transition into high school life.
- Asynchronous Learning: Scholars in all other cohorts (2023, 2024, and 2025) will not report to campus. They are expected to work from home on goal-setting activities and surveys. Please look for an email from your cohort principal with specific details and links.
Friday, September 4th
- In-Person Learning: All MHS scholars across all grade levels (Cohorts 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026) report to school in person for a full day of learning and community building.
- The Last First Day of School for Seniors photo event will be from 7:00 to 7:30 a.m. To participate, come through the Events Lobby entrance before entering through the Cafe.

Cell Phone Policy
Middletown schools remain cell phone-free in 2026-27.
We will continue to support our cell phone-free spaces with our Yondr program. This practice—now reinforced by new New York State Education Department legislation—aligns with what we already know: that less screen time during the day means more engagement and stronger peer connections. Scholars should bring their working Yondr pouches on the first day; those without one will have their phones collected by Administration during arrival.

Cell Phone Policy
Middletown schools remain cell phone-free in 2026-27.
Our commitment to fostering an optimal academic-focused environment for every young person remains steadfast. To uphold this commitment, we are continuing our efforts to prioritize the health, well-being, and safety of our scholars while minimizing distractions within our schools.
Bus Transportation
Bus information for qualified scholars will be available on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
Qualification is based on the distance between the scholar's home and school. This information will NOT be mailed to families. If you have issues, please contact your building or businfo@ecsdm.org. Please include your child’s name, ID number, address and phone number.
Bus information is subject to change, right up until the first day of school. In case of any updates, we encourage you to check the Portal in the days leading up to the first day of school, Thursday, September 3.
If you recently moved, please notify us of your new address. Contact your child’s building, or Central Registration at (845) 326-1300.
Pick-up and Drop-off
Scholar drop-off begins at 8:20 a.m. Enter through the Schutt Road Main Entrance, pull up, and Carter staff members will meet and greet you and your scholar for the school day. They will ensure that your scholar gets to their classroom. Click here for an Aerial View of WAC Schutt Rd. Extension Scholar Drop Off Loop
Dismissal begins at 3:00 daily. Your child will return home on the bus unless we have a written note stating otherwise. If you live within a mile of our school, your child will be deemed a walker or parent transportation. When you pick up your child you will need to have photo identification at all times.
