The Arts at Middletown City Schools

With one of the strongest and most competitive fine arts programs in the region, the district offers students 18 art electives and 21 music electives. As a result, Middletown kids are experiencing the excitement and satisfaction of artistic achievement and individual expression through course work, performing ensembles, clubs and through their participation in New York State and national competitions.

Students participate in various choral and instrumental music competitions annually, including All-County, Area All-State, All-State and the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Festival. Students also participate in the Scholastic Art Awards each school year. The competition exhibits student artwork and awards prizes and scholarships to students at local, regional and national levels.

    Arts in Education
Arts in Education (AIE) is just one of the many ways the district is helping to raise student achievement and narrow the gap in student performance. AIE provides diverse educational arts activities, aligned with specific New York State standards, with professional artists, writers, and poets. All Middletown schools offer AIE and about $15,000 per school is allocated for funding each year. Additional funding is provided to buildings for "writers in residence" programs that allow professional writers and poets to work with students on literacy projects.
