Kindergarten
students learn about past presidents
FEB. 2005—Students
in Mrs. DiDio's ESL kindergarten class built log cabins
and studied the history of Abraham Lincoln to celebrate
Presidents' Day this February. Students used fudge
sticks, crackers and icing to build their houses and
according to DiDio also used their math and problem
solving skills in the process!
Annual
dance program a success
FEB.2005—On Feb. 17, Truman Moon
students participated in the eighth annual dance program
organized by physical education teachers Mr. Lentino and
Mr. McDevitt. Students gathered in the gym to show off
their dance moves! Classes each preformed a dance for
the school that they learned while in gym class. Classes
preformed the Hokey Pokey, the Linbo, the Mexican Hat
Dance, the Seven Jumps, the Shoemaker Dance and the
Alley Cat. Together, as a school, students and teachers
danced to the YMCA, the Macarena and the Twist.
School
celebrates 100th day!
FEB.2005—Truman Moon celebrated the
100th day of school on Feb. 16, 2005, with a parade featuring
'Hundred Day' banners made by each classroom. In
addition, many students brought in projects made of 100
objects and students also sang songs about the number
100 to celebrate.
Truman
Moon raises $4,250 for tsunami relief
JAN. 2005—On Friday, January 21,
2005,
Truman Moon students hosted a "We are the World" benefit
concert to aid the tsunami victims. According to
Principal Donna Napolitano, over $1, 000 was raised.
Kindergarten and first graders sang patriotic songs
under the direction of Ms. Kristen Patrick, music
teacher, for parents, administration and members of the
Middletown Board of Education. Songs included: This
Land is Your Land; Where Can We Find Peace; America the
Beautiful; and You're a Grand Old Flag; among
others. Students at the school also raised $3, 000 from
a Cheez-It fundraiser, making the grand total the school
plans to donate to the US Fund for UNICEF $4,250.
Students get a
little help in making gingerbread houses
DEC. 2004—While
visiting Truman Moon during the holiday season, Dr.
Kenneth Eastwood, School Superintendent, and Mr. John A.
Perrino, a member of the Board of Education, visited Ms.
McGowan's kindergarten class and helped the students
make gingerbread houses.
Residents at Southwinds get a treat
FALL 2004—Residents
at Southwinds got a treat from Truman Moon students.
Students in Mrs. Byrne’s, Mrs. Walsh’s and Ms Yegidis’
classes visited Southwinds residents to perform a sing-along medley of patriotic songs. Students also
participated in a meet-and-greet with the residents, and
shared baked goods. |
