Ball in the House takes to the stage at Twin Towers
Middle School and Middletown High School
NOV.2007—Ball in the House,
a Boston-based vocal a cappella group, performed at Twin
Towers Middle School and Middletown High School on Nov.
15 and Nov. 16 as part of Arts in Education (AIE)
programming at the schools.
The group
is made up of five guys and their voices—that's it. They
use vocal drums/beatbox and vocal bass under their
harmonies to create a sound that's all their own. Ball
in the House
performs nationally
(averaging 250 dates a year) and can be heard on
national TV and radio as the voices behind the Cool Whip
commercials. This year, the group is on
the nominating ballot for 11 Grammy awards including
record of the year, album of the year, and song of the
year. They have also opened and
performed with various pop artists such as:
Gladys Knight; Blondie; The Temptations; Smokie
Robinson; and numerous others.
Prior
to the two afternoon shows that Ball in the House
performed on Nov. 15 at Twin Towers,
chorus
groups got to take part in workshops with the group.
Group members talked to students about music,
song writing, rehearsals as well as their personal
experiences growing up as vocalists. Before taking to
the stage, they worked with middle schoolers practicing
warm-ups and working on rhythms used in one of their
songs in the show.
At the high school, the group performed several shows
for students on Nov. 16. Community members were also
invited to one of the afternoon shows as were senior
citizens from Mulberry House, Park Manor Rehab & Heath
Care, and the Wallkill Senior Center.
