Congrats graduates!
JUNE 2004
On Friday, June 25, 2004, nearly 300 seniors earned diplomas from Middletown High School during commencement in the Orange County Community College (OCCC) gymnasium.

Dr. Rev. William Best of the Middletown Board of Education welcomed seniors, family and friends. "Tonight's atmosphere is filled with Middie pride and much joy and happiness," he said.

Interim Principal George Vanderzell read letters of encouragement to the class of 2004 from President Bush and Governor George Pataki, while Acting Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Gray spoke of decision making and success in the future. "Today grads you are all winners," he said.

Students Melissa Knapp and Laura Gluckman gave commencement addresses, reminding fellow classmates to never forget the times they shared together at MHS and to look to the future, as so much lies ahead. "We feel excitement because we have finally finished this long adventure called high school," said Knapp. "We made it!"

Congratulations to those students who also graduated from Middletown High School on Aug.19, 2004.

2004The MHS chorus kicked off the spring season by hitting the road and traveling to Florida this April for a variety of performances.

In April, several of the ensembles competed in the Fiesta-Val Invitational in Orlando. At the competition, Women's Chorale finished in first place with a superior rating and the Pipers, who also performed in Walt Disney World's EPCOT theme park on April 28, 2004, finished in second place with a superior rating as well. The Chamber Singers and Men's Chorus finished in second place with excellent ratings.

In addition, a large group from the cast of the high school spring musical production "Anything Goes" traveled to Six Flags Great Adventure to take part in the Peak Performance Musical Theatre Festival and Competition. The show finished in second place out of 11 schools and two students were recognized with special solo awards. Devon Riley won the "Outstanding Male Actor" award and Jessica Ruggles won the "Outstanding Female Soloist" award.

Fields to get lights
MARCH
2004The Board of Education, after many requests from the Middletown community, is expecting to "turn on the lights" at both the baseball and soccer fields.

The Board previously matched $103,000 the community raised for the project; but because the bids for the plan were higher than initially expected, the board is supplementing another $40,000 in funds to get the project underway.

Foreign Language department at MHS gets visit from Gary Milgrom
MARCH 2004
The Foreign Language department at MHS held a special workshop with guest speaker Mr. Gary Milgrom, a veteran Spanish teacher at J.F. Kennedy High School.  Mr. Milgrom has taught in college, junior high and now teaches classes at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He was named Teacher of the Year in NYC twice and is the author of three textbooks: Spanish for Communication, French for Communication and Italian for Communication.

"He shared his creative ideas and his positive approach to his profession," said Grace Ford, chair of the Foreign Language department. "His enthusiasm is contagious. It was a wonderful way for us to recharge our batteries and return to the classroom with some new ideas."
