MAY 2008—Ninth
graders at Middletown High School are getting the chance to
see first hand what the college experience is all about.
During the week of May 19, freshman students will spend
a day at Marist College, in Poughkeepsie, NY, touring the
campus and learning about what the institution has to offer.
Since the high school College & Career Center opened its
doors this fall, Lisa Parker, College & Career Center
Advisor, has been collaborating with school administration,
guidance counselors, and teachers to help make students feel
confident about making college and career choices. The
Center offers various resources and computer software for
kids to research different educational and career
opportunities—and it’s helping to bring college fairs
and campus trips like this one
to Middletown students.
Parker is currently working with various local college
representatives to plan college day trips for students so they get the opportunity to see first hand
what institutions have to offer, take tours of different
campuses, and meet with college representatives.
