Middletown college
fair gives students choices
MAY
2008—It’s
never too early to start thinking about college. And
students at Middletown High School were doing just
that
on May 7
thanks to a college fair put on by the school’s College
& Career Center. Admission counselors from over 60 schools
were on hand to help high schoolers make one of the most
important decisions of their lives—which college to attend.
"The
college fair was a valuable way for all high school
students to learn the importance of planning for college
early,"
said Lisa Parker, College &
Career Center Advisor.
From private four-year universities to two-year colleges
to SUNY schools, students had the world at their
fingertips on Wednesday. Over the two hour span,
students in grades 9-12 filtered into the school’s
gymnasium talking with various admission counselors about
programs and courses offered, athletics, clubs, and
campus life.
While some students gravitated toward their
top college or university choice, others spoke to a
variety of counselors at the fair in the hopes
of finding their perfect college fit.
“The
better informed and knowledgeable our students are about
their futures, the easier the college admission process
will be,” Parker said.
“The fair was a great opportunity for our students to
explore and learn about different colleges and programs
that are available to them.”
Information pamphlets about programs and financial aid
support were made available to all students, and some
colleges even offered request forms to students
interested in receiving more information about their
institution in the mail.
High schoolers can continue their college search by
visiting the College & Career Center at Middletown High
School. Parker is available by appointment to meet with
students or they can stop by the Center to schedule an
appointment during school hours or before or after
school. Parker is also available to meet with parents
and students together to discuss career and college
opportunities and search strategies. To make an
appointment call (845) 326-1611. |
