Maple Hill receives $2,500 grant from the Best Buy’s Children Foundation to enhance technology in school curriculum

MAY 2005-Best Buy’s Children Foundation has awarded Maple Hill Elementary School a $2,500 Te@ch grant for integrating interactive technology into the curriculum. The grant funds will be used to enhance the fourth grade technology program at the school.

According to Monica Hasbrouck, technology integration instructor, “the school plans on purchasing palm pilots for use with our fourth grade students. Students will take a walking tour of the school grounds to observe local wildlife like geese, beaver dams, and marsh areas, take notes and pictures with their palms, hot sync their information onto our mobile lab and create a Power Point presentation on their findings.”  This will prepare the fourth graders for the NYS science exams later this spring.

Grade four math testing levels improve
OCT. 2004-According to math results released by the State Education Department this October, achievement in elementary and middle school math is increasing statewide.

Maple Hill Elementary School saw an increase in students’ math achievement. The percentage of students scoring a level 3 or 4 has increased by 22 percent since 2002. “Maple Hill's improved test scores can be credited to analysis of previous test data, alignment of curriculum to the state standards, increased time on task (accountability), a new math series and most importantly, good instructional practices,” said Principal Paula Amaditz. “We are all very pleased with the higher percentage of children meeting or exceeding the standards, but we must continue to work hard to move all of our students to levels 3 and 4.”
