Maple Hill
students create school's first sculpture garden
MAY
2004-During
the " Artist of the Year" celebration May 2004, Ms. McCord's after school art club unveiled the first sculpture
garden made by children in the art plaza behind Maple Hill
School. Children from grades 3-5 participated in the
creation of "Lotus Hues." The sculpture represents the bud
of an emerging flower and each contour of the petals
creates a color route of subtractive primary colors to
show how color is made when combining the primaries:
magenta, yellow and cyan. The style of the art work is
based on work Ms. McCord saw when she visited schools in
Japan as a guest of the President of Education in April
2004.
