in Scholastic Book Fair Scrapbooking contest
J. W. Chorley placed second in
the Scholastic Book Fair Scrapbooking contest recently,
winning $100. Over 1,000 schools participated in the event

Students
apply democratic principles in class election
NOV. 2004-Mrs. Brown's class
participated in their own "Presidential Elections," on
November 2, at Chorley Elementary School. As a
culminating activity, the children in nominated
two students for "Class President," and two students for
"Class Vice President." The children were nominated
based on their classroom citizenship and behavior, being
serious learners, and being well liked and respected by
their peers.
"This was a wonderful
opportunity to have students apply democratic principles
and have a lot of fun," said Mrs. Brown. Candidates
campaigned by writing a persuasive essay with their
parents, and presented them to three classes. The
children then cast their votes in a private booth, the
votes were tallied and the winners announced.

to research and illustrate specific class themes that
were on display for parents to view at the festival.
