Physical Examinations
Physical examinations are
required by law for students as
well as all new entrants regardless of grade level. This
examination is to be given by the family physician, or
personal health care provider, or district school
physician. The purpose of this examination is to detect
deviations from normal health and to advise parents of the
need for further study by the family physician. Often, this
prevents the development of more serious health problems.
The school nurse conducts hearing tests using audiometer
testing equipment. Hearing losses are reported to parents.
If a report is received, the child should be taken to a
physician or health care specialist for an examination.
The school nurse by means
of a Titmus Screening Instrument conducts vision
screening tests. Equally important is the observation of the teacher,
parent and child for symptoms and prompt follow-up after
a visual defect is reported.
New York State Public
Health Law requires all children entering school to be
adequately immunized against diphtheria, Varicella, measles, polio,
rubella (German Measles), mumps, and hepatitis. |
