Middletown Academics

Welcome to the Academics section! Under the guidance of Richard Del Moro, Director for Secondary Education, Dr. Darlene McDonough, Director for Elementary Education and Dr. Linda Hatfield, Literacy Coordinator, students have the opportunity to experience a variety of educational avenues to help each child reach their full potential.

Standards-based learning & Arts in Education (AIE) programming are allowing students to participate in educational activities linked to specific New York State standards. In addition, students at the high school level can receive college credit even before graduation by taking college-level courses offered as part of the curriculum.

This year Middletown launched several new programs like Project Lead The Way (PLTW) at Middletown High School and Twin Towers Middle School, and the Middletown Freshman Academy at the high school. Middletown is also one of 56 school districts in New York State to develop an educational enhancement plan, known as a Contract for Excellence, with the State Education Department (SED) to use additional state aid to improve student achievement.
