Book Adventure-Book
Adventure is a FREE reading motivation program for
children in grades K-8. Children create their own book
lists from over 6,000 recommended titles, take multiple
choice quizzes on the books they've read offline, and
earn points and prizes for their literary successes.
Book Adventure was created by the Sylvan Learning
Foundation and is sponsored by Sylvan Learning, Inc.
Brainchild-This site offers Web-based assessment and
multimedia instruction on each of your state standards.
Click on "Choose your state." Under New York there are a
list of assessments for grades 3-12 for math and
reading.
Brainconnection-This
site includes interesting research on how young children
learn. The site also contains interactive brainteasers
that address letter names, phonemic awareness and other
language and reading skills. Make sure you check out
Reading Rover: A FREE tool for teachers! Created by
leaders in brain research, Brain Connection’s Reading
Rover is a set of useful measuring tools to help
educators and parents evaluate phonemic awareness and
language and reading skills in children (Pre-K-3).
Children's Storybooks Online-This Web site has
numerous animated and interactive stories online (Grades
Pre-K-5).
Funbrain Reading-This portion of the site offers
an online Mad Libs game and online books (Grades 3-6).
Get Ready To Read–This site has resources for
educators to help prepare children to read. The site
also contains online books, games, cards, and literacy
checklists (K-2).
International Children’s Digital Library –This
site offers numerous full story children’s books
digitally. The books are interactive and are great to
use on a SMART Board (Grades Pre-K-6).
Interactive Reading Pages-On
TV411’s interactive Reading pages, students get
practical practice in Finding Faulty Logic, Reading
Charts and Graphs, Reading Maps, Scanning for
Specifics, Summarizing and Using Context Clues.
Jayzeebear-The
Web site has online stories, and math problems (K-5).
Kids Lab –This site offers online interactive
practice on finding the main idea in a short paragraph.

(Grades K-3).
Online Talking Stories–This site offers numerous
links to a variety of online stories for grades Pre-K-5.
PBS Kids Between the Lions–This PBS show gets wild about reading. Students may click on stories
on the tabs at the top of the web page. This site also
offers games, songs, and printable pages (Pre-K-3).
PBS Kids–This site contains stories about Clifford, Arthur
and other PBS characters. There are games; activities;
crafts; printable sheets; meet the cast of the TV show;
visit the studios; learn to draw the characters; and
more (K-3).
Reading
is Fundamental–Poetry Splatter-Writing
poems has never been so much fun. Using Poetry
Splatter is easy. Students simply choose a poem title
from a list. When they see their poem frame, they fill
in the blanks with words that are spattered onto the
screen.
Reading Quest–This
site has strategies for reading comprehension and a list
of graphic organizers that are printable with
instructions (K-12).
Sesame Workshop-This site has quite a selection of
games. Cookie Monster has a great pattern game that
requires you to add food items to continue a pattern or
to insert items in the middle of a pattern. Burt asks
you to help him sort his bottle caps into a double Venn
Diagram (K-2).
SCORE–This
site offers teacher ELA resources, including novel cyber
guides (also Foreign Language), graphic organizers, and
more (K-12).
Starfall-The
Starfall learn-to-read site is an excellent way to
inspire students with a love of reading and writing.
The Web site features phonics activities, online
interactive stories, and much more (K-2).
Story Place-This
site has stories grouped by theme. These stories read
themselves to the children. After reading the stories
you can do on-line activities, print out take home
sheets and look at reading lists that can steer you
toward related stories. This site is also available in
Spanish (K-3).
Teachers at Random House-This
site contains activities for novels they publish, and
teacher’s guides (K-12).
Web English Teacher–This site offers numerous ELA activities, including novel activities,
