Scholastic Art Awards: Middletown's golden showing

Twin Towers Middle School student Spencer Hogan led the Middletown contingent of seven students receiving the highest level of the Regional Scholastic Art Awards for 2011-12.

Hogan, Kayleigh Feely, Paty Flores, Andres Ochoa, Isabella Sanchez, Allison Sciucco and Sarina Wallace received “Gold Key” recognition, which is the highest level given by the Hudson Valley Regional Scholastic Affiliate. Hogan received this honor for two of his submissions. He also won a Gold key last year.

Hogan was among the Middletown kids who attended the awards ceremony on Feb. 10 at SUNY New Paltz. Dinah Baergas was one of the three student speakers.

Middletown had 131 students submit artwork, with 39 students in grades 7-8 and 92 students in grades 9-12. Middletown had 21 students who received “Silver Key” recognition, which is the second-highest level. There were 98 students who received honorable mention.

The Gold and Silver key winners will attend the Regional ceremony at 7 p.m. on February 10 at SUNY New Paltz. An exhibition reception will follow the awards ceremony.
