Find out what’s happening in the Middletown school district

Study validates Middletown's turnaround

Academic News ON Sep 01, 2011

Internationally recognized and independent program evaluation firm, Interactive, Inc., found that the Enlarged City School District of Middletown public schools are a rare example of a successfully turned around school district with six years of documented improvements in student basic skills achievement and graduation rates for all student groups and for the elementary, middle and high schools.

Dr. Dale Mann, Managing Director of Interactive, spoke and presented at the Sept. 1, 2011, school board meeting, a broadcast of which can be seen on Channel 20.

"In the case of Middletown," Mann says, "you have remarkable across-the-board student achievement and changes-in-gains student achievement over a time when the enrollment characteristics were going in the direction when you would predict less achievement, not more. And you have held the line on your costs and finances. So you’ve done with remarkably more with the same amount of resources. Both of those things are unusual.”
