Athletic News ON Jun 01, 2012

Amber Goodspeed and Octavious Wilborn set school records Thursday at the Section 9 track and field state qualifying meet at Kingston's Dietz Stadium.

Goodspeed won the 800-meter run in 2:14.6, breaking the mark set by Sheena Simpkins in 2007 (2:15.4). Goodspeed qualified for the state championships, which will be held June 8-9 at Cicero-North Syracuse high school.

Wilborn finished fourth in the 800 (1:56.3), breaking Pat Anglin's 15-year record of 1:56.5. Though Wilborn failed to qualify for the state meet, his time unquestionably will draw the attention of college coaches.

Alex Shodai took sixth in the 3,200 (9:52.8).

The meet concludes on Friday.
