Welcome to
the English as a Second Language (ESL)/bilingual section
of our Web site.
The Middletown City School District recognizes that the
education of students with limited English
proficiency includes the acquisition of a new language
and a new culture, and therefore requires special
consideration and attention. We strive to enable all
students to achieve proficiency in speaking, listening,
reading, and writing in the English language. We also
strive to enable that all students meet New York State
standards in all disciplines and content areas.
Acknowledging that acquiring academic competence in
English takes time, we are committed to providing the
necessary support so that students continue to learn
content while they are learning English. To accomplish this, Middletown offers students and
their families the choice of participating in a
transitional bilingual or ESL program, and we provide
sufficient information to help families make the best
choice for their child.
Parents can contact Kris Kerr, ESL/bilingual
director, at (845) 326-1307 with any questions/concerns.
Please
note: the
ESL/bilingual department is
bilingual in English and Spanish.
