A regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Enlarged City School District of Middletown, New York was held Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the Board of Education Office, 223 Wisner Avenue, Board President Rose Tobiassen, presiding.

Ms. Tobiassen called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.
Ms. McDonough led the pledge to the flag.
Ms. Tobiassen opened the meeting asking if any person wished to express an opinion on the budget, as this section of the meeting was intended for an informational public hearing regarding the proposed budget for the 2008-2009 school year.
No one wished to address their opinion. Ms. Tobiassen closed the public hearing at this time.
At 7:16 p.m., Ms. Tobiassen called to order the Regular Meeting of the Board of Education and acknowledged that it was Teacher Appreciation Week and extended her thank you to all of our teachers.
Dr. Mauro made a motion, seconded by Ms. Perkins, to approve the agenda.

BOARD MEMBER REPORTS
Dr. Mauro reviewed policy process, stating that BOCES policies still go to our attorney first for review and any Board initiated policy should have initial input from the Board before going to the attorney for review.
Mr. Perrino reported there was a meeting with the Middletown Common Council and Mayor and they toured the High School facility. Mr. Perrino advised that a meeting with the local realtors and members of the school district is being implemented.
Ms. Tobiassen reminded the Board that OCSBA’s annual dinner will be on June 4 and will need to respond by May 27 if interested in attending.
Mr. Estrada advised that ESL Bilingual Committee did meet to finalize their brochure and will meet again before the school year ends.
OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS THE BOARD
- Luke Stover, Student Action League – Questioned students not being able to re-enter the school building once they leave. Dr. Eastwood advised to address his concerns with School Improvement Team.
- Eric Donley, Student Action League – Asked why music and news websites are blocked. Dr. Eastwood stated that the District subscribes to a service that reviews on a daily basis, websites and follows filtering guidelines. Dr. Eastwood said the Technology Department can review those websites.
ROUNDTABLE
Mr. Crescenzo – Thanked MTA and Board for hosting Candidate’s Forum.
Mr. Perrino – Recognized High School Musical - Leader of the Pack,
New York State Read Out Loud on April 16, High School Renaissance Ice Cream Social on April 30, Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association, High School Track Team Plant Sale, College Fair at High School on May 7, LaCrosse game at Chorley and Come Read With Us – Bookies & Cookies at Chorley, 2008-2009 Course Catalog.
Mrs. Knapp – Mr. Bennett’s Chorus group went to Disney for competition and placed 1st and 2nd, Arts in Education display will be held outside of High School Auditorium on May 9, College Fair held on May 7.
Dr. Mauro – Meet the Candidates Night will be televised on Channel 20.
Mr. Estrada – Suggested to get students involved next year and participate by asking questions to candidates during Meet the Candidates Night forum.
Mr. Geiger – Suggested forming a coalition so communication is open between realtors and the school district.
At 8:50 p.m., Mr. Estrada made a motion, seconded by Mr. Paul, to have an executive session for the discussion of the employment history of specific personnel. Motion was unanimously approved.
Ms. Tobiassen stated that the Board did not anticipate to reconvene into public session.
